Wanstead High School students enjoy many opportunities for learning outside the classroom through a variety of visits across subject areas and taking part in projects led by a wide range of partners.
All year nine students visit various tourist sites in London to support their Geography studies while year eight students enjoy trips to the Tower of London with the History department. Year nine students have also for the last six years enjoyed watching a specially created education production of a Shakespeare play at the Globe. Sixth formers visit a wide range of universities, museums and galleries both to support their studies and learn about opportunities for further study. Previously students have visited, amongst others,The Royal College of Art, The Royal College of Pathologists, The British Museum and the Institute of Education.
Working in Partnership
We have enjoyed working with arts organisations including the National Portrait Gallery and the National Theatre on projects which will inspire students to succeed and produce work of the very highest standard. Students have performed at the Donmar, Sadler's Wells, the Royal Albert Hall, National Theatre Studio and the Royal Opera House and have enjoyed attending productions and taking part in workshops at The Globe, Old Vic and Donmar among many others.
We have been very lucky to have twice been chosen to take part in 'Take the Stage' workshops led by the Donmar Education team. Last year also saw us for the first time joining the Design Ventura project at the Design Museum with students taking part in designer led workshops before creating their own design to a set brief.
Working with the community
Wanstead High School takes a very active role in both our local and wider community and has built relationships with local community groups, primary schools and a number of schools around the world. We have been awarded the International School Award by the British Council, in recognition of our work in bringing the wider world into the classroom. Working with partner schools overseas is an inspiring experience
