Sixth Form

Welcome to Wanstead High School Sixth Form

Many congratulations Wanstead High School’s class of 2018 who achieved the school’s best ever A level results. The school has recorded 80% A*- C grades, the best ever in its history. Nearly half of our A level grades are at A*- B. This has come at a time when there has been a national dip in the number of A*- C grades. We also saw an increase in our overall pass rate to over 99%.

This is enabling our youngsters to go on to the universities of their choice with destinations including Bristol, Manchester, UCL, Birmingham, Edinburgh and Warwick. We are of course proud of all the students, whatever their achievements, but special mention to the following students:

Frank – A* Economics, A* Geography, A Mathematics, A Extended Project qualification.

Joshua – A* Mathematics, A* Further Mathematics, A Chemistry.

Thomas – A* Mathematics, A Further Mathematics, A Physics.

Louisa – A* Psychology, A English Literature, A History, A Extended Project qualification.

The cohort’s amazing results are the combination of the hard work of the students, the dedication of all the staff and the support of the parents.

We are committed to continually improving and driving standards to achieve excellence.  We will look after you, support you and believe in you.  In return, we will expect nothing less of you than your very best!

We will meet with you and your parents to ensure that you are studying the correct subjects and are on the right learning pathway. Your GCSE grades are crucial in deciding the choice of subjects or courses that you study.  It is important that you achieve at least a Grade 4 in Mathematics and English GCSE.  If you wish to study A Levels you should aim to achieve Grade 6 in Mathematics and English GCSE, and your desired A Level subjects.

We offer a broad and balanced curriculum that we deliver with depth and rigour.  Our exciting range of learning pathways for you to choose from means that we are also fully inclusive - Level Two (with qualifications equivalent to four GCSEs), and at Level 3 both BTEC and A level qualifications.   We have excellent facilities within our purpose-built Sixth Form block including study areas, a computer suite, common room and canteen.  We also have state of the art facilities in our 13 science laboratories, outstanding facilities in Art and Performing Arts including studios, photographic dark room, a theatre and rehearsal suites.  We believe that investing in good facilities and providing a pleasant working environment enhances students’ learning.

Throughout your time in the Sixth Form we will also help you move towards becoming more independent
self-regulated learners and develop the skills you will need for moving on to higher education, university and the world of work.

Joining our Sixth Form is not just about academic study; it is also about meeting new friends and becoming actively involved in Sixth Form life.  This includes social and sporting opportunities, becoming an active member of the school community and taking part in our social contract scheme whereby all students aim to support some aspect of community service.

We hope that you find all the information you need within this booklet.  Please contact us if you have any questions.

We look forward to receiving your application and having the opportunity to discuss this with you in the near future.

Ms. Eleni Bray
Head of Sixth Form
