Wanstead High School's English and Drama teachers have recently headed to Shakespeare’s Globe for the third year running with all 240 of our year 9 students to attend a very memorable production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream.
Produced for teenagers by Globe Education the production was performed for a total of 20,000 school students from across London as part of the Shakespeare’s Globe’s ‘Playing Shakespeare with Deutsche Bank’ programme. Thanks to funding by Deutsche Bank, support from the Globe and TFL, we were able to offer this opportunity to students for free.
Our English and Drama teachers, who escorted the group, highlighted how perfectly the production worked for the age range of the audience and how they engaged with the actors and appreciated being in such a fabulous theatre. The theatre itself proved a real hit, with many students commenting on how special it was. As one of our students put it “This was my first visit to the Globe and to be honest I thought it was going to be boring but it was amazing. The thing I loved about the Globe was that you feel you are part of it and you feel very welcome.”
